Reading and using an account

You can read the book and download its public resources without an account. Hosting and security services process technical information such as your IP address and requests to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

If you create an account, we store your email address, a password hash, verification and account records, reading progress, assessment drafts and attempts, results, and any journal entries you save. We use this information to provide your learning account and its recovery and security functions. Your password is not stored in readable form.

Your journal and learning records

Journal entries belong to your account. If you deliberately share an entry for product improvement, you can withdraw that sharing later. Ordinary improvement reports do not display learner names, email addresses, or journal text. Your learning records are not public profiles.

Optional improvement and study invitations

Product-improvement collection and future-study invitations are separate, optional choices. Neither is required for an account. If you opt into product improvement, we may analyze pseudonymous learning interactions, assessment responses and outcomes, feedback, and journal activity metadata to improve the material. Journal text is excluded from that activity collection.

A study-invitation preference only allows us to contact you about a possible future study. It does not enroll you or authorize use of your learning data for research. Any study will provide separate information and request its own consent.

You can change these choices in Privacy preferences. Withdrawal stops future optional collection; it does not automatically undo previously collected improvement records. Contact us with requests concerning existing records.

Cookies and service providers

We use session and security cookies to keep you signed in and protect forms. OVHcloud hosts the service, Cloudflare provides DNS and may proxy site traffic, and Postmark delivers account and support notifications. These providers process the information needed for those functions. We do not use this service for advertising or sell learner data.

Support and retention

Support reports contain the category, message, optional reply address, and any relevant publication context you submit. Avoid passwords, assessment answers, journal text, or other sensitive information. Support reports in the application are scheduled for removal after 180 days; related email may remain in the operator's mailbox.

Unverified accounts and completed account-email queue records are scheduled for cleanup after 30 days. Account and learning information remains while you use your account unless you delete it or request removal. Operational logs and encrypted backups are managed separately and may retain information after deletion from the live database. Backup restoration requires a review before restored accounts, mail, or data become available again.

Export, correction, and deletion

Account settings provides account-data export and account deletion. Deleting an account removes its associated learning and consent records from the live application. We retain a minimal deletion audit without a learner identifier. Contact us for assistance with correction, access, deletion, or records retained outside the live account.

Changes to this notice will be published here. Optional consent choices record the wording version that you were shown.
